We had a picture of the day and it was an octopus. The octopus was in a clear box with a one inch hole. We were shown how the octopus has no bones, so it was able to squeeze its self out. We talked about the Daily Cloud thing. The cloud is the thing that tells us how many words were repeated on the wiki. Then we talked a little about Japan and that lead us to talking about orgami. Wednesday, we are having a contest on who will have the coolest orgami figure. We talked about the scribbing. We also talked about how to get our answers for the question posted. We discussed the Daily Round-Up and that is also about the scribbing. Then we had a lecture about Shintoism. Tomorrow, we have a wikireview, finish the lecture, do orgami, take class pictures for sending to Morocco, an dour assignment is to work on the orgami. Monday's assignment is to read in Blue Book : Chapter 28, section 4 and know these terms: samuri, shogun, Commodore Perry, juku, and What marked the decline of the shoguns? Red Book: Chapter 17, and know diet, zaibatsu, militarism, Meiji, Japanese attitudes towards west after WW1, and atomic bomb drop. Alyssa
Kirste: Today in Mr. Neiffer's class he had a video clip about a octopus scrawled through a one inch clear box. Mr. Neiffer has given us a few assignments. He would like it if we could scribe most of the week. All the morocco assignments are due Tuesday at 6:00pm. We have to read Chapter 28 section 4 and the terms asmurai, shogun, Commodore Perrry, juku, what marked the decline of the shoguns? As well as Chapter 17 and know the terms diet, zaibatsu, militarism, Meiji, Japanese attitudes towards the west after WWI and the atomic bomb drop. He would like us to read these chapters before Friday but do not wait for the last minute which is Thursday. He also would like it if we could make an origami sculpture and we will have a contest for the most creative on Wednesday. We are taking pictures on Tuesday to show who we are to the Moroccans. He also told us about the cloud which tells how many times a word is used. Mr. Neiffer lectured on Shintoism which is the main religion in Japanese culture and is extremely different from the other Western religions that we have studied so far. The Japanese worship and honor thier ancestors and have a strong desire for peace and they do not have a srict moral code. They do not have a clear concept of the afterlife and are belivers follow the works of Confusicism. Shintoism began when a couple gave birth to the islands which is Japan, and they had a daughter who is the sun goddess and her name is Amaterasu Omikami and she becomes the mother of the future Japanses royalty. Kami or gods are the powers of nature which are associated with animals, trees, mountains and springs and anything else that is living. The Japanse worship them which is the religion of Shintoism.
